The Gospel word is the proclamation of the presence of God’s redemptive activity. Therefore, the Gospel, correctly proclaimed, conforms to and coincides with God’s power at work in the world. Thus the gospel is power. The ministry of the Christian preacher is defined in the light of this realization. It is the power of the gospel which forms the church and sustains its life- not homiletical skill or institutional organization. This is not to sanction order, but it is to acknowledge the source of the church’s true life.
